| ObjectiveTo investigate and describe the prevalence and distribution of overweight andobesity in the adults in Jilin province, and to explore relevant influencing factors inorder to provide evidence for effective interventions.MethodsA total of23050adults ranging from18to79years old in Jilin province, whichwere sampled through multistage stratified random cluster sampling method, wereenrolled in the questionnaire survey and physical examination. Questionnaire surveywas accomplished in form of face-to-face interviews consisting of concentratedsurvey and household survey. Each investigator was trained. Questionnaire includeddemographic information (such as gender, age, ethnic, cultural degree, marital status, occupation and income), and related behavior factors (such as smoking, drinking, dietand physical activity). Physical examination mainly included height, weight, waistcircumference and hip circumference. Epidata3.1was used in data entry, andSPSS19.0was used in data analysis. All analysis was accomplished through beingweighted according to complex sampling scheme (the sixth national populationcensus in Jilin province in2010). General demographic characteristics of respondentswere described using ratio. The overweight and obesity prevalence in differentpopulations were described using rate. The distribution of overweight and obesity indifferent population differences were accomplished based on complex samplingdesign Rao-Scott chi-square test. And the influence factors of overweight and obesitywere accomplished using Logistic regression analysis.Results1. A total of20839valid questionnaires were collected. There were9873males (47.4%) and10966females (52.6%), where male to female ratio was0.9:1. Therewere10733urban residents (51.5%) and10106rural residents (48.5%), where urbanto rural ratio was1:0.94. Age of subjects ranged from18to79years old, average age(47.27±13.34).2. The prevalence of overweight among adults in Jilin province in2012was32.3%(urban:32.9%, rural:31.6%; male:34.3%, female:30.2%). The prevalence ofoverweight in urban was higher than that in rural. And the prevalence of overweightamong males was higher than that among females. The prevalence of overweightamong adults ranging from55to65years old was higher than ranging from45to55years old (40.5%:39.8%), and the prevalence ranging from18to25was the lowest(14.5%).3. The prevalence of obesity among adults in Jilin province in2012was14.6%(urban:14.6%, rural:14.6%; male:16.3%, female:12.8%). The prevalence of obesity amongmales was higher than that among females. The prevalence of obesity among adultsranging from45to55years old was higher than ranging from25to35years old(16.5%:15.8%), and the prevalence ranging from18to25was the lowest (7.8%).4. Through multi-factor Logistic regression analysis, it showed that gender, age, marital status, occupation, education level, smoking, drinking, exercise, sleep, balanced diet were associated with overweight and obesity (P<0.05), as follows:males (OR=1.471,95%CI=1.341-1.613),25~35years old (OR=2.221,95%CI=1.775-2.780),35~45years old (OR=2.891,95%CI=2.292-3.646), aged (OR=3.625,95%CI=2.868-4.583)45~55,55~65years old (OR=3.338,95%CI=2.621-4.252), the age (OR=2.481,9565~79%CI=1.898-3.242), married (OR=1.443,95%CI=1.189-1.750), separated/divorced/widowed (OR=1.439,95%CI=1.138-1.818), other occupations (OR=1.242,95%CI=1.127-1.370), middle schooleducation (OR=0.901,95%CI=0.817-0.993).Ever smoking, drinking, and sometimes exercise, regular exercise, meat-based diet, eating salty were risk factors of overweight and obesity, OR and95%CI values asfollows:1.208(1.057-1.381),1.093(1.000-1.193),1.215(1.109-1.330),1.285 (1.181-1.399),1.447(1.267-1.653) and1.236(1.138-1.343); smoking,7to9hours of sleep time, more than9hours of sleep time, vegetarian diet were protectivefactors, OR and95%CI values as follows:0.695(0.633-0.763),0.889(0.824-0.959),0.838(0.742-0.947),0.831(0.769-0.897).Conclusions1. The prevalence of overweight and obesity in Jilin province in2012is higher thannational prevalence level, but lower than that in Jilin province in2010.2. The prevalence of overweight among males was higher than that among females, inurban adults higher than in rural adults, in separated/divorced/widowed status higherthan in other marital status, other career higher than manual workers and mentalworkers, and primary school higher than other educations.3. The prevalence of obesity among males was higher than that among females, nosignificant difference between urban adults higher and rural adults, inseparated/divorced/widowed status higher than in other marital status, other careerhigher than manual workers and mental workers, and under graduate higher than othereducations.4. Among the Health-related behaviors, ever smoking, drinking, below7hours sleeptime were risk factors of overweight and obesity.5. Among the diet-related behaviors, carnivorous diet and high-salt diet were riskfactors of overweight and obesity; vegetarian diet was protective factor. |
