This paper consists of two parts. The first part is review of Sambucs genus, including taxonomic research, chemical composition and pharmacological activity and the application of the genus. The second part is the study on the chemical constituents of leaves of Sambucus chinensis Lindl..Dried leaves of Sambucus chinensis Lindl. are extracted by relux with alcohol.Then the extracts are extracted with petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and n-butanol. The petroleum ether and ethyl acetate part were isolated by silica gel colum chromatograph, Sephadex LH-20,ODS and TLC.The structures of compounds are elucidated on the basis of spectral techniques,including NMR, ESI-MS.Eleven compounds were obtained from leaves of Sambucus chinensis Lindl. and identified as:squalene(1),4-hydroxyphenethyl heptadecanoate(2),n-pentacosanol (3), n-pentatriacontanol(4),(E)-phytol epoxide(5),,phytol(6),β-sitosterol(7), daucosterol (8),quercetin(9),quercetin-3-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1â†'2)-β-D-galactopyranosyl (10), quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucopyr-anoside(11). Compounds1-6,10were isolated from genus Sambucu for the first time.The antibacterial activities of compounds will be determined in the next step.
