Objective To explore the dietary therapy on Qi and Yin type diabetes an per combined application of Western medicine and TCM theory, and to observe its effect on patients blood glucose, symptoms and quality of life.Methods This research was randomized controlled trial (RCT). The Food Therapy on Qi and Yin type diabetes has been determined based on large numbers of literature review, expert consultation and eating habits investigation, and used as research tool.68cases of Diabetes Type II (Deficiency of Qi and Yin type, as classified by TCM theory) collected from Shangcheng District Community Health Center Hangzhou City had been divided into intervention group and the control group according to the random numbers,33cases for intervention group and35cases for control group. Palm rule was applied to the Control Group in diet therapy. In addition to palm rule application, a food therapy was also offered as supplement according to TCM theory, and the total intervention time was12weeks, blood Glucose was detected every four weeks, Such data as weight, abdominal circumference, glycosylated hemoglobin(HbAlc), Qi and Yin deficiency condition and quality of life were detected12weeks before and after intervention, the findings were recorded, analyzed and monitored..Results (1)After12weeks intervention, compared with control group the intervention group’s weight and abdominal circumference were no significant differences(p>0.05);(2)8weeks after intervention, fasting blood glucose detected in the intervention group was lower than the control group, and difference was of statistic significance (p<0.05) As compared within the intervention group, fasting blood glucose detected in the intervention group was lower than that detected8weeks before, difference was of statistic significance (p<0.05).(3) After12weeks intervention, HbAlc detected in the intervention group was lower than the control group, difference was of statistic significance (p<0.05).(4)After12weeks intervention, the intervention group’s Qi and Yin deficiency condition and quality of life were significantly better than baseline(p<0.05), and compared with control group, significant differences were found(p<0.05).Conclusion The food therapy on diabetes (Deficiency of Qi and Yin type, as classified by TCM therapy) combine TCM with medical nutritional therapy is better than simple modern nutrition diet guidance. It not only help control blood glucose, but also help improving symptoms and quality of life.
