Background:To investigate the clinical epidemiological features offemoral neck fracture in elderly patients referred to the eight hospitals indistrict of Beijing, Tianjin and Tangshan, and provide evidence for treatingand preventing this fracture. Methods:Eight hospitals were included in the current study, of them6hospitals (Tianjin Hospital; Peking university third hospital; BeijingChaoyang hospital; Beijing Shijitan hospital; Wangjing hospital of CACMS;The central hospital of China Aerospace Corporation;)were classified as levelⅠand the other2ones (Luhe hospital of Tongzhou Beijing; The secondhospital of Tangshan) were levelⅡ. The clinical DRs data of patients withfemoral neck fractures admitted to the8hospitals of Beijing, Tianjin andTangshan from January2010to December2011were abstracted from thepicture archiving and communication systems (PACS) or the taken films andanalyzed. Exclusion criteria: old fracture, rib fracture, reexamination andfractures of skull et al. Relevant reviewers were trained to classify thefractures, including AO and Garden classification. If any disagreement wasencountered, a discussion was made until a consent was reached. All the datawere calculated and analyzed by SPSS16.0package.Results:1334cases of60years and older were identified, of them464males and870females, with a ratio of1:1.88; the mean age of the includedpatients was74.4years. There was altogether61combined fractures of othersites (4.53%), and the3mainly accompanied fracture were as followsaccording to the proportion: radius and ulna (17), vertebral(13) and tibia andfibula fracture(11). Femoral neck fracture was most common in the group of71-80years (42.3%), and the dominant fractures type according to AOclassification was31-B2type.732cases occurred in the left sides and602 were right sides. Regarding to AO classification, there were207cases (20.2),538ones in31-B2(40.3%) and526ones in31-B3(39.5%). Of this3types,females make up a higher proportion than males. In the age of61-70and morethan80years,31-B2take up the most, but in the age of71-80,31-B3was themost one. Regard with Garden classification, GardenⅢ type accounts for themost (69.4%)and was followed in sequence by GardenⅡ(25.2%), Garden Ⅳ(4.8%) and Garden Ⅰ (0.6%), the displaced Garden Ⅲ、 Ⅳ were997cases,which account for a high proportion of74.2%.Conclusion:Femoral neck fracture was more likely to occur in thefemale elder patients, with a proportion of1:1.88in males to females.31-B2was the dominant fractures type according to AO classification,31-B3hasoccupied a larger proportion than that reported by the previous study, deserving more attention. The displaced Garden Ⅲ and Ⅳ accounted for74.2%of all the femoral neck fractures.
