Objective:To study the prevalence for suicide ideation among inpatients at general hospital and explore the relationship between suicide ideation and impulsivity in inpatients.Methods:1280inpatients who were15years of age or older were randomly selected in a general hospital and tested by general population characteristics of scale, Barratt Impulsivity Scale, and Mini-International Neuro-psychiatric Interview.Results:(1) The risk factors of suicidal ideation were Motor Impulsiveness (OR=1.15,95%CI1.08-1.22),gender(1.57,1.06-2.31), living place(1.64,1.11-2.42),number of children (2.44,1.32-4.52),Family resident population (1.66,1.08-2.56),religion(1.80,1.16-2.80),Marital Status(1.81,1.08-3.05);(2) Inpatients who reported suicidal ideation had significantly higher scores of total and Motor Impulsiveness scores of impulsivity than inpatients with on suicidal ideation (total:59.97±8.16vs63.72±8.48,P<0.01);(3) The result of hierarchical regression showed the interactions between Motor Impulsiveness scores and gender, the population of permanent residents in family, the number of children, have any religious beliefs didn’t have significant effects on suicidal ideation [G=(df=1)1.549, p=0.213; G=(df=1)2.334, p=0.127; G=(df=1)2.466, p=0.116; G=(df=1)2.115, p=0.146];(4) Suicide ideators who reported prior suicidal ideation only had significantly higher scores of total and Motor Impulsiveness scores of impulsivity than inpatients who reported suicidal ideation only in the last month (total:60.09±7.88vs64.51±8.61, P<0.05);Conclusion:(1) For inpatients at general hospital, the interactions between Motor Impulsiveness scores and other factors such as gender didn’t have significant effects on suicidal ideation.(5) There existed significant difference among the impulsivity of suicidal ideators who reported suicidal ideation in different periods.
