Objective To understand nursing undergraduates’ general empathy ability, clinical empathy ability and clinical communication ability status quo; To investigate empathy training courses’ effect on nursing undergraduates’general empathy ability, clinical empathy ability and clinical communication ability.Methods (1) Using the cluster sampling method to select70nursing undergraduates. General information questionnaire, IRI-C, clinical empathy ability and clinical communication ability questionnaire were used to investigate nursing undergraduates’ general empathy ability, clinical empathy ability and clinical communication ability. All information is analyzed by SPSS13.0statistical software, using statistical description, the t test, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear stepwise regression analysis.(2)70nursing undergraduates were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group, students in the experimental group receive a period of8weeks empathy training courses, the control group without training. To compare the results of the two groups before and after intervention. Results (1)70nursing undergraduates general empathy ability score was(74.66±9.62), each dimension scores were higher than2.5points, clinical empathy ability score was (109.79±7.80), clinical communication ability score was (82.54±7.31);(2) The clinical communication skills and empathy ability are positively related(r=0.325, P=0.006); The clinical communication skills and clinical empathy ability are positively related(r=0.469,P=0.000);(3) Before intervention, there was no difference between the general capacity for empathy, clinical empathy ability, clinical communication ability of the two group (P>0.05); After intervention, the general capacity for empathy, clinical empathy ability, clinical communication ability of the experimental group were higher than that of the control group (P<0.01). (4) After intervention, the general capacity for empathy, clinical empathy ability, and ability of clinical communication of experimental group increased(P<0.01), while the control group showed no difference (P>0.05).(5) There were positively related between the improvements of empathy ability and clinical communication ability (P<0.05).Conclusions(1) The empathy training course can effectively improve the empathy ability of nursing undergraduates;(2) There are correlativity exists between clinical communication ability and empathy ability, so we can use the empathy ability to predict the clinical communication ability.
