MethodsThe literatures studied in this essay mainly come from China AcademicJournal Network Publishing Database. The following key words are used to searchinformation: Metabolic Syndrome, diabetes, obesity, Hypertension,Hyperlipidemia, Arthrolithiasis, massage, acupuncture, cupping, scraping,Chinese Manipulation. Literatures and journals on the subject between the year1979and2013are selected, categorized and then analyzed using Excel. Theanalysis is used to understand the nature and rules of TCM practices and treatmentin metabolic diseases.ResultAccording to the category of TCM practices, the literatures are analyzed from5perspectives. The total number of literatures is1904. Below is the number ofliteratures on specific practices and their percentage in the total amount ofliteratures:Acupuncture:1488,78.15%; Massage:307,16.12%; Cupping:73,3.83%; Scrapping:16,0.84%; Chinese Manipulation:20,1.05%; Diabetes:722,38%; Obesity:445,23%; Hypertension:616,32%; Hyperlipidemia:15,1%;Arthrolithiasis:93,5%; Metabolic Syndrome:13,1%. There was a total of31different literatures on TCM practices from1979to1983, making up1.63%of thetotal amount of literature; Between1984and1988, the number increased to63,with a percentage of3.3%The number doubled for the years between1989and1993to124, making up6.5%of the total; The number continued to increase to197(10.32%) from1994to1998From1999to2003, the number reached to241(12.63%); There was yet another big rise between2004and2008, with a totalof524literatures making up27.46%of the total amount of literatures.ConclusionTCM practices are widely used to treat metabolic diseases. Different practicesare used for different diseases, showing their unique advantages. There has been asteady increase in the amount of literatures on TCM practices, especially in the last10years. This indicates that the value of TCM practices for metabolic diseasetreatment is becoming more recognized than before. The most frequently usedTCM practice for metabolic disease treatment is Acupuncture (1488), followed byMassage Therapy (307) and Cupping Therapy (73). The least used practices areScraping Therapy (16) and Chinese Manipulation (20).TCM practices are highly effective in treatment as well as prevention ofmetabolic diseases in various stages of the diseases.
