ObjectiveTo study long-term effect of total knee arthroplasty with anatomical rotating platform prosthesis.Method80cases of total knee arthroplasty (72patients with knee osteoarthritis) using anatomic rotatingplatform prosthesis (GEMINI MK II) were studied within PLA88Hospital from January2002toDecember2006, including20males and52females, ranging from48to81years old, with an averageof63years. All operations were primary total knee arthroplasty, without the patella being replaced. Thefunction of the patient’s knee evaluated by HSS score (Hospital for Special Surgery score), pain, kneeX-ray, patient satisfaction, as well as various complications during preoperative and postoperativefollow-up were summarized and analyzed. The results were analyzed by SPSS17.0.ResultsThe average follow-up time was75.12months (60to120months). All incisions healed by firstintention, and no infected patients were found. Compared with preoperative condition, pain and kneefunction were improved significantly post-operation with a maximum of130°. About86.28%(69/80)of the patients were satisfied with the treatment. Prosthesis loosening was not found. HSS scoreincreased from preoperative (51.12±11.88) to (82.55±7.33) at the last follow-up. The knee functionscore increased from preoperative (10.58±2.80) to (19.02±1.49) at the last follow-up. Anterior knee painscore decreased from preoperative (9.16±2.04) to postoperative (13.53±2.08)[(73±16)°to (108±17)°].15cases(18.75%)(12patients) suffered anterior knee pain and eight cases (10.00%)(seven patients)suffered flexion deformity. Postoperative deep vein thrombosis developed in one case (1.25%)(onepatient). No pulmonary embolism was observed. One case (1.25%)(one patient)suffered traumaticprosthesis loosening. No other complications were found.ConclusionThe anatomical rotating platform knee prosthesis was efficacious for treating osteoarthritis, whichcould significantly improve joint function, correct joint deformities and improve the quality of life.
