Background: Amusement progress in the science and technologies change our dailylife style and behaviors, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are becoming oneof the major disease and also bearing a huge threat to our health, in this hypertension isone of the most important independent risk factor for the diseases mentioned above. Sothat early detection of hypertensive patients in our general population is a major concernabout the disease discovery. Therefore, measuring the blood pressure effectively is apreferred way to monitor for detection and also assessing the blood pressure controlstatus in patient who already diagnosed, with or without antihypertensive treatment.Clinic blood pressure measuring by sphygmomanometer, home blood pressuremeasurement by digital blood pressure curve, and ambulatory blood pressuremonitoring (ABPM) are three major blood pressure assessment tools available withreliable quality nowadays. Due to aggressive improvement in the science andtechnologies, different blood pressure measuring methods have been introduced bydifferent sphygmomanometers. Like other electronic products, the feasibility andunnecessary to learn about the technique for measuring blood pressure, the digitalblood pressure monitor let people to use it commonly now. But both health carepersonals and patients concern about its reliability and accuracy of its measurement. Objective: The major purpose of this study is to find out the relation between differentblood pressure monitoring in essential hypertension patients and compared the resultsobtain from measurement. Moreover, we want to compare the results from differentblood pressure monitoring systems and comparing the accuracy and reliability of eachsystem.Methods:192hypertensive patients, admitted to the cardiology department of the1staffiliated hospital of Dalian Medical University from May2012to December2012, were enrolled in this study. Hypertension was diagnosed by China Guideline forPrevention of Hypertension2010. Firstly we measured the arm diameter of each patientand noted. After that blood pressure of the patients were measured by3differentmethods (ABPM, Digital blood pressure monitor and mercury sphygmomanometer). The first two use oscillometric method to measure blood pressure whereas the last oneuses Kortokoff sound. All of the BP monitoring systems were corrected by metrologydepartment before using it.Results:1.The results from3different blood pressure measuring system do not havestatistical significant not only a single time systolic blood pressure value but also themean value of systolic blood pressure (P>0.05). In diastolic blood pressure, nostatistical significant was found in single measurement or mean value of two timemeasurements in both ABPM and automatic digital BP measuring system (P>0.05),whereas there was statistical different in sphygmomanometer BP measurement and notonly with ABPM but also automatic digital BP measurement (P<0.05).2. In patients with arm circumference>27cm, both diastolic and systolic BP showedstatistical significant when measuring with two different sizes of BP cuff (P<0.05).Conclusion:1.3different kinds of sphygmomanometer can accurately measure the blood pressure, so that digital blood pressure monitoring system could replace the traditional mercury sphygmomanometer gradually.2. We should measure the blood pressure with different size of blood pressure cuff to acheive the exact blood pressure in accordance with different arm circumferences.3. Continuous blood pressure monitoring system is more suitable for using in clinicblood pressure measurement.
