Objective To investigate understanding of antimicrobial agents knowledge andpotential factors among college students to provide a scientific basis for us to furtherconduct the health education of rational use of antimicrobial drugs among collegestudents. Methods The antimicrobial cognition of2college’s students with10differentmajors were investigated by cluster-sampled with the questionnaire designed by theauthors. Information about sociodemographic characteristics, understanding ofantimicrobial agents, awareness and discrimination of the situation of using antibiotics,behaviors of using antibiotics was included in the questionnaire. Chi-square analysiswas used to explore the potential factors about the cognition of using antibiotics,discrimination of the situation of using antibiotics and selection of using antibiotics,though SPSS13.0. Results The correct answer rate of antimicrobial agents knowledgewas61.7%in overall college students,72.3%in pharmaceutical professional classstudents,53.4%in non-medical specialty, and the difference was statistically significant(P <0.01). In lower Grade Students, the rate was55.0%and68.1%in high schoolstudents. Also the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). The correct answerrate of antimicrobial agents knowledge was58.5%and64.6%among students fromrural and urban area, representively (P<0.05). Subgroup by level of educationhousehold income, the correct answer rate of antimicrobial agents knowledge was57.5%,59.4%,65.1%and70.6%. Subgroup by household income, the rate was60.9%,59.5%,65.7%,62.7%and52.1%. The rate of students who use antimicrobial drugswithout guidance reached84.1%, the rate in pharmaceutical professional class students (88.6%) was higher than in non-medical professional class students (80.6%)(P<0.01).The correct rate of the discrimination of using antibiotics reasonably was73.3%;77.4%college students correctly selected antibiotics; The compliance for health professionalsof using antibiotics was72.2%. Conclusion College students are not sufficiently awareof using antibiotics reasonably and adverse reaction. Consequently, related publicityand education should be strengthened in various forms to improve level of usingantibiotics reasonably among college students, and reduce risks of infectious diseases.
