Objective To explore the association of Prol2Ala polymorphism in peroxisome prolifera-tor-activated receptorG2(PPARG2) gene with obesity and myocardial infarction in Han-Chinese population in Hohhot area. Methods According to case-controlled study design258subjects were enrolled randomly, including121subjects with myocardial infarction (MI) and137normal subjects (CG)in Hohhot area. We detected triglyceride (TG), total cholester-ol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) by using the method of biochemistry; measured anthropometrical parameters such as body height(BH), body weight (BW), systolic blood pressure (SBP), and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and BMI was computed. Polymerase chain reaction-restricted fragments length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP)was used to determine the Prol2Ala substitution. Hardy Weinberg law was used to detect population representation and logistic regression analyses were used to investigate the association between Prol2Ala polymorphism and myocardial in-farction and obesity. Results①There were significant differences in clinical parameters with-out DBP and TG between MI and CG.②The PP,PA+AA genotype frequencies of Prol2Ala polymorphism were0.884,0.116in cases and0.956,0.044in controls respectively (P=0.031).③Ala allele carriers had a significantly higher risk of myocardial infarction than non-carriers. There was no evidence that Ala allele can be regarded as an independent risk factor for obesity. Conclusion PPARG2gene Prol2Ala polymorphism is an genetic agent of MI in Han-Chinese population in Hohhot area.
