Traditional Women’ and Children’ Medicine Knowledge is a set of cognitivesystem and practice of the disease about women and children in traditionalbackground, which is created by the folk to fight disease, maintain health, andrepopulate the earth traditional folk. According to its unique natural environment andsocial and culture, Tujia pepole who are being in towering and steep mountains havecreated a set of quite distinctive Traditional Women’s and Children’s MedicineKnowledge.They Survive in the specific cultural background and have characteristicsof the combination with witchcraft and medicine, paying attention to the daily healthcare, and using medicinal plant. They also have the advantage of simplicity andconvenience, low side effects, and paying attention to humanistic care. In the history ofTtujia nationality, Tujia’s Traditional Women’s and Children’s Medical Knowledge hasplayed an important role in sustaining women’s and children’s physical and mentalhealth.This paper mainly uses the theory of medical anthropology and postmodernism to researchTujia’s Traditional Women’ and Children’ Medicine Knowledge and its modern value. Medicalanthropology emphasizes the role of culture in the formation of the disease, and thinks symptomsand treatments of people’s disease relates to culture and its meaning assigned by people. Therefore,in explaining the causes of disease, Tujia people has the natural pathogenesis and supernaturalpathogenesis,forming a binary point of etiology. There are different methods of diagnosing andtreating disease under the guidance of binary point of etiology. The above contents are mainlydistributed in the first, second and third chapter. In forth chapter, this paper uses the point ofreflection and criticism of postmodernism to summarize the modern value of Tujia’s traditionalwomen’s and children’s medicine knowledge. It includes the value of medicine, ecologicalprotection and social integration. The most prominent value is the medical value, itmainly focus on making up for the defect of modern maternity and child health system,meeting the people’s demand for green and natural health,and paying attention tohumanistic care. Modern medicine armed with modern science is not omnipotent, itssome shortage has been increasingly revealed. Such as it is helpless in the face of somedifficult miscellaneous diseases of women and children, distributing resources ofmodern maternity and child health system are uneven, the doctor-patient relationship is nervous, etc. These problems make us have to rethink the existing health system. Theadvantages and value of Tujia’s Traditional women’s and children’s MedicineKnowledge provide us probability of rethinking the problem and proposing solutions.One hand, it can provide reference for the development of modern medicine; On theother hand, it can form model of the plural-coexist of traditional medicine and modernmedicine.The author hopes that through researching it could help for the continuation andspread of Tujia’s Traditional Medicine Knowledge, for the majority of women’s andchildren’s physical and mental health, and for the development of public health in ruralareas.
