Objective:The study is to investigate CPR cognitive status and training needs in family members of patients with heart disease, then analyze the causes of current status, which can provide references for CPR training in family members of patients with heart disease, so as to improve the survival rate of prehospital emergency medical care in patients with heart disease. Methods:A self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate the family members of patients with heart disease in Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital affiliate to Medical College of Zhejiang University. The questionnaire has been tested with high reliability and validity. Collected data were analyzed with DPS statistical software, including descriptive analysis, one-way ANOVA and independent samples t-test.Results:1.120family members of patients with heart disease agreed to participate the survey and filled in the questionnaires.116questionnaires returned, and5questionnaires were invalid with the effective response rate of92.5%.2. The mean score of family members of patients with heart disease about CPR knowledge was13.46±4.77(6~30), the score of each item was2.15~2.35. There were statistically significant differences (P<0.05) in socres of CPR knowledge among family members with different age, education level, occupation, religion, experience of CPR, CPR implementation experience to patients or others and whether received CPR training. There were no statistically significant differences (P>0.05) among family members withe different gender and relationship with the patients.3. The mean score of needs was27.37±4.52(16~32), the most important need was "I want to know what kind of premonitory symptom would happen when the patient suffering from cardiac arrest". Needs scores were significant differences from different age, education level, religion and nonexperience of CPR. There were no differences in gender, occupation, relationship with the patients, CPR implementation experience to patients or others and whether received CPR training.4.97.2%and93.6%family members of patients with heart disease thought that it was very necessary to receive CPR education and training;53.2%and30.6%family members of patients reported that their main motivation for learning CPR was concern about their loved one and wanted to learn a new skill to help others;64.9%of medical staff never initiative to suggest the family members of patient to receive CPR training;30.6%family members of patients thought that "inadequate skills and the possibility of causing harm" was the main barrier;66.7%family members thought that the best way to receive CPR knowledgewould be from hospital.Conclusions:1. The overall cognitive level of CPR knowledge of family members of patients with heart disease is very low, especially the olds, less educated persons and farmers.2. Most of family members of patients want to know CPR knowledge, which indicates that they have a high demand for training needs, especially the young man, highly educated people and who have no experience of CPR with the patient.3. The mian reasons why not attend CPR training are lack of time for most of family members; inadequate skills and the possibility of causing harm were recognized as the barriers to practice CPR in family members of patients with heart diseases; few medical staff initiative to suggest the family members of patients to receive CPR training. 4. Hospital is the best place to provide CPR training; collective lectures and one to one teaching mode are the best methods for training.
