Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of different interventional bronchoscopic techniquesfor the management of benign cicatricial hyperplasia airway stenosis, and to study thefactors associated with the treatment effects.Methods:From1,2010to7,2012,72patientswith cicatricial airway stenosis were admitted to our department. An investigation wasmade to analyze the effects by different interventional bronchoscopic treatments. The mostsuitable treatment modality for cicatricial airway stenosis was explored and described. Results:For the72patients,the disease was cured in9,improved in10,not improved in12,and failure in5. The cure rate, effective rate and ineffective rate were25%,53%and47%,respectively,Further analysis showed that the effective rate was8%and82%respectivelyfor the electrical coagulation therapy and the balloon dilation combined with needleelectrical knife and cryotherapy.Re stenosis extension after operation occurred in67%ofthe cases by electrical coagulation therapy, but only12%of cases by the balloon dilationcombined and cryotherapy. Conclusions:Our experience demonstrated that for treatment ofthe airway cicatricial stenosis, electrical coagulation might induce and worsen seriousairway re stenosis resulting in failure of treatment. On the other hand, balloon dilationcombined with needle electrical knife and cryotherapy might be a relative safe andeffective therapy for airway cicatricial stenosis.
