Objective: To research the prevalence of smoking among Hengyang medical personneland their attitude to participate in tobacco control, and targeted to quit training of aprofessional body of medical staff, to improve the awareness of tobacco control, promotethem to actively participate in tobacco control in daily work, to create a smoke-free hospitalsand provide the basis for promoting tobacco control in the whole society.Methods: Hengyang medical personnel was selected using multistage stratified clustersampling and assessed on a self-designed questionnaire to research the smoking status andstudy on the impact of policies and measures,culture,environment,ethics and responsibilityemotion on smoking behavior;chi-square test was used to compare smoking statusdifferences and Logistic regression method was used to analyze the influencing factors, andthe "reasonable action theory" was used to explain the reasons.Results: Smoking rate of medical staff in Hengyang was30.4%, of which smoking rate ofthe male staff was55.8%, the female was1.0%, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.001); Quit smoking rate was44.9%, the success rate is19.1%.The main motivations ofsmoking were social need,boredom, induction, curiosity and learning/working pressure; Thetobacco were mainly bought by themselves or sent from others;Avoid static place,entertainment place, home and office are the main smoking places; the main time theysmoke are with friends,invited by others,nervous or depressed in study/work; most Medicalstaff are aware of smoking’s harmful to health. On the belief and attitude to smoking andtobacco control,87.5%think smoking is a bad habit;Objectives who agree to createsmoking-free hospitals accounted for87.3%,On the attitude and responsibility to medicalworkers’ quitting smoking and helping quit smoking, the rate of medical staff who agree tobe active to provide smoking cessation services for the patients were66.7%. From theMultiariable Logistic regression analysis results, male, community hospital and medical staffof longer working life,tend to have higher smoking;more Intermediate title of professionalmedical personnel tend to quit than senior title;the higher their Average monthly income is, the lower tendency they help the patient to quit smoking. Tertiary hospital, internal medicine,and the lower average monthly income of the staff tend to be relatively higher to help thepatient to stop smoking; male medical personnel have lower propensity to create smoke-freehospital than females, no smoking medical staff tend to create a smoke-free hospitals.Conclusion: Smoking rates of medical staff in Hengyang was high; The awareness rateabout smoking in smokers is high; Resistance to tobacco situation is not optimistic; the quitsmoking result of medical staff was not good, and quit smoking obstacles were more;Hengyang medical personnel insufficient awareness of tobacco control and smokingcessation service ability needs to be strengthened; Although the hospital indoor and banningsmoking are plastered with signs, and in parts of secondary and tertiary hospitals havesmoking areas, but its utilization is very low, part of the department, when go into thecorridor can smell smoke, especially in the administrative department, so there existnegative factors for smoking control. To carry on the tobacco control interventions to reducethe medical staff smoking rates is significantly important.
