Objectives To explore the relationship between insulin resistance and carotid atherosclerosis, as well as whether insulin resistance is an independent risk factor for carotid atherosclerosis or not. To investigate the impacts of insulin resistance on carotid atherosclerosis and discussion the groups of metabolic factors on the influence of carotid artery sclerosis. To study the relationship between metabolic factors and insulin resistance in each group.Method Patients are selecte from the patients hospitalized in second Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Department of Geriatrics. We are use the color Doppler ultrasound to check the carotid artery intima-media thickness in patients. Collecte151patients with carotid atherosclerosis as the research group, all of the inclusion objects are detecte fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin and calculating the insulin sensitive index, and complete the determinations on the fasting lipid, fasting uric acid, abdominal circumference and blood pressure. For all data are carry on the analysis of variance, chi-square test, the independent sample t test and Logistic regression analysis, to clear the relationship between all the observe indicators and carotid atherosclerosis and insulin resistance.Results1. Insulin resistance group is a significantly higher degree of carotid atherosclerosis in patients with non insulin resistance patients group, The degree of carotid atherosclerosis is positively correlate with insulin resistance (P<0.05).2. The metabolic factors that triglycerides, cholesterol, LDL, glucose, HBA1C, blood pressure, uric acid and carotid atherosclerosis are correlate with carotid atherosclerosis (P<0.05).3. The metabolic factors that high triglycerides, high blood glucose, high HbAlc, high blood pressure, high uric acid and carotid atherosclerosis are positively correlate (P<0.05).4. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed:insulin resistance index, triglycerides, cholesterol, LDL, glucose, HBAiC, blood pressure, uric acid and carotid atherosclerosis are the risk factors of carotid atherosclerosis (P<0.05).Conclusion1.Compared with the non-insulin resistance patients, the insulin resistance groups are easily lead to carotid atherosclerosis;2.Carotid IMT thickening formation is the early indicators of atherosclerosis;3.1nsulin resistance is closely related with carotid atherosclerosis, which is may be form an early one of reasons in atherosclerosis.
