Objectives: (1) To assess the accuracy of B-Flow technique in evaluating the normal carotid arterial diameter(NCAD). (2) To estimate the accuracy and superiority of B-Flow technique in assessing the lumen diameter of the carotid arterial stenosis(CAS). (3) To evaluate the value of B-Flow technique in measuring the area of carotid stenotic lumen (CSLA). Methods: (1) The carotid arteries of ten healthy dogs(two parts of each vessel) were examined by two-dimensional (2D) ultrasound,B-Flow, Power Doppler Imaging(PDI) and Color Doppler Flow Imaging(CDFI).The lumen diameters were obtained and compared with Digital Subtraction Angiography(DSA). (2) Fifty-eight patients with CAS and fifty-five healthy persons were examined by B-Flow, PDI and CDFI. The diameter of the most stenotic lumen and the percentage of stenosis were obtained. DSA was performed on fourteen patients. (3) we performed 2D on 42 patients with suspected carotid artery stenosis (CAS),then only 57 vessels were included into the study whose stenotic lumen were clear . 57 carotid arteries were examined with 2D, CDFI, PDI,B-Flow methods and the transverse sonograms of the stenotic lumen...
