Objective:To apply Color Doppler Flow Imaging (CDFI) and Transcranial Doppler (TCD) to evaluate the efficacy of carotid artery angioplasty and stent (CAAS) performed on patients with carotid stenosis.Method:41 cases of carotid stenosis (carotid stenosis rate>50%) with cerebral ischemia Symptoms confirmed by Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA) who receive carotid artery angioplasty and stent are reviewed. With CDFI and TCD to measure the vessel diameter, carotid stenosis rate, peak systolic velocity (PSV) of the narrow segment, PSV of Ipsilateral Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA) and Pulsatility Index (PI) before and after the treatment of intravascular stents, and make a comparison analysis.Result:The patients with carotid stenosis after the treatment of carotid artery angioplasty and stent:①Inner diameter of the narrow part become widened, from before stenting the inner diameter is (1.88±0.75) mm to after stenting it is (3.63±1.02) mm,(P<0.001);②PSV of the narrow part and PSV,PI of the affected side MCA turn to be normal along with collateral circulation closed.before stenting the PSV of the narrow part is (197.49±64.78) cm/s, after stenting it is (82.62±36.48) cm/s (P<0.001); PSV of the affected side MCA is (63.92±26.83) cm/s before stenting, and after stenting it is(87.46±18.90)cm/s (P<0.001); PI of the affected side MCA from (0.67±0.35) before stenting, turn to (0.89+0.17) after stenting. Conclusion:Results from CDFI & TCD imply that intravascular carotid artery angioplasty and stent will improve patients'vascular structure and haemodynamics and the combination of CDFI & TCD can be applied as an important means to evaluate and do follow-up examination of efficacy of carotid stent implantation.
