Clinical Significance Of The Protein Galectin-3in Serum Of Gastric Cancer Patients

Objective To detect the level of the protein galectin-3in serum and its clinicalsignificance for gastric cancer patients,and investigate their function in the genesis anddevelopment of gastric carcinoma, and then provide the theory basis for the diagnosis,prognosis evaluation and guide therapy of the patients.Methods1.Galectin-3testing is based on ELISA, measuring the levels of the protein galectin-3inserum among60patients with stomach cancer and40normal testees involved inphysical checkup to identify the changes in the protein Galectin-3levels of pre-surgerypatients with gastric cancer. and furthermore to compare Galectin-3, CA199and CEA toassess its clinical value in diagnosis of gastric cancer.2. All data were processed by SPSS16.0.Results1.The association between tumor markers and tumor pathological stage Galectin-3andCA199concentration in the tumor group was positively correlated with tumorpathological staging(p<0.01).CEA and tumor pathological stage had not correlation(p>0.01). 2.Distribution of the tumor marker differences Galectin-3concentration in the normalgroup was significantly less then its concentration in the tumor group (normal groupmedian2.39pg/ml; tumor group median4.89pg/ml),the presence of a statisticallysignificant difference(p<0.01);median CA199(normal group16.68u/ml;the tumor groupmedian85.46u/ml;p<0.01)and CEA(normal group median2.86ng/ml;tumor groupmedian number8.79ng/ml;p<0.01)and can also be found the same trend in thedistribution Logistic regression analysis showed that Galectin-3and CA199is one ofthe risk factors for the diagnosis of gastric cancer (Galectin-3:OR=1.709,95%CI:1.254~2.058,p<0.01; CA199:OR=1.02,95%CI:1.107~1.133,p<0.01),CEA cannot become the diagnosis of gastric cancer risk factors(OR=1.05,95%CI:0.885~1.019,p>0.01).3.The diagnostic value of the tumor marker by calculating the ROC curve Galectin-3,CEA, CA199AUC (ROC area under the curve) are0.862,0.726,0.835, UnitedGalectin-3and CEA AUC=0.858, Galectin-3andCA199combined AUC=0.869,jointed CEA and CA199AUC=0.846, jointed Galectin-3, CA199and CEA can bedrawn AUC=0.886.Conclusion1.The diagnosis sensitivity is greatly optimum by comprehensive evaluation ofGlaectin-3, CA199and CEA.2.Galectin-3might become value of tumor markers of auxiliary diagnosis in gastriccancer.
