Background-Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women. Its incidence is also rising rapidly. Early diagnosis followed by prompt treatment are essential for reducing cancer mortality and morbidity, but women lack of knowledge on breast cancer and its screening practices is the main reason for delay in presenting for treatment.Objectives-The aim of this study was to investigate the knowledge, attitude and practice of breast cancer among international and Chinese female university students in China.Methods-Descriptive cross-sectional study on knowledge, attitude and practice of breast cancer was carried out through self-administered questionnaire among conveniently selected female students of11universities in China. A total of916international medical, international non-medical, Chinese medical and Chinese non-medical female university students successfully completed the survey. Data analysis was carried out using the SPSS-11.5.Results-Our results showed four groups had significant differences on knowledge of breast cancer (p<.001). Students with family history of breast cancer were more likely to carry out clinical breast examination (p=.041). The majority of participants were not aware of some of the risk factors and early signs of breast cancer. Even though most of them had knowledge on breast cancer screening methods, only27%practiced breast self-examination and5.6%practiced clinical breast examination. Internet was mostly opted as favorite media to learn more about breast cancer by60.2%of students.Conclusions-Knowledge and practice of breast cancer is insufficient among international and Chinese female university students in china. There is the need for developing and implementing effective breast cancer education and prevention programs among female university students in China.
