Objective:To modificate the structure of tremella polysaccharide by phosphate esterification, and to study the effects of phosphate polysaccharides from tremella fuciformis on hematopoietic functions in radiation-induced injury of mice. Methods:Homogenous tremella polysaccharide was isolated and purified from fermented tremella spore powder. The tremella polysaccharide was modificated by phosphate esterification. The animal model of radiation-induced injury was established. The number of nucleated cells in bone marrow, colony-forming unit of splean, spleen index, thymus index, hepatosomatic index, number of white blood cells and bone marrow DNA amount were used as ends to study the effects of phosphate polysaccharides from tremella fuciformis at doses of10mg·kg-1,30mg·kg-1,60mg·kg-1on hematopoietic functions in radiation-induced injury of mice. Results:Phosphate polysaccharides from tremella fuciformis markedly increased the number of nucleated cells in bone marrow, DNA, number of white blood cells, spleen index, thymus index and hepatosomatic index of radiation--induced injury of mice compared with the control group. After statistics processing, the results had significant differences (P<0.05). Especially, the treatment group receiving phosphate polysa-ccharides from tremella fuciformic at30mg/kg dose exhibited better activities than the positive control group of tremella fuciformis. Conclusions:Phosphate polysaccharides from tremella fuciformis can ameliorate ionizing irradiation-induced hematopoietic function injury in mice, protect hematopoietic tissues, and antagonize a decrease of white blood cells.
