Long-term survival of cancer patients’ adaptation to the situation graduallygained attention, higher level of psychosocial adjustment are often able to reduce thepsychological impact of disease and treatment and improve the quality of life ofpatients. Previous studies focus on adaptation mode, in-depth studies on adaptationlevel are also less. Most study variables are not comprehensive enough, scales are notup to standard. There is no domestic scale can be used, and research of cancerpatients’ adaptation level are basicly blank. Adaptation in the long-term survival ofcancer patients is increasingly becoming a hot issue. it is necessary to developapplicable scales and explore the related factors. Help clinicians to assess the level ofadaptation and identify and intervent related factors. It is in order to promotepatients from maladjustment to adjustment, and ultimately enhance the level ofpsychosocial adjustment and quality of life of cancer patientsObjective:Psychosocial Adjustment to the Illness Scale-Self-Report have been introducedand tested. research will apply new tools for future research. The same time, thelevel of the current situation of cancer patients and the predictors can be pictured andanalyzed through application of large sample cross-sectional survey. Methods:This research contains two major steps: test of Chinese version of instrument andcross-sectional survey.Step one: By extensive literature review, we distinguished the concept andmeasuring tools of adjustment, selected and introduced Psychosocial Adjustment tothe Illness Scale-Self-Report (Pairs-sr). Based on the process of translation,back-translation, culture adaption, we completed the exploratory factor analysis andconfirmative analysis process to ensure the excellent reliability and validity of theChinese version scales(C-Pairs-sr).Step two: The related variables and measuring instruments was determined bymethods of theory study, experts consultation, literature review. The dependentvariable: psychosocial adjustment level; Independent variables: self-efficacy, socialsupport, coping style, sociodemographic variables and medical variables. theinfluencing factors of adjustment among cancer patients was determined by themethods of correlation analysis, univariate analysis and stepwise multiple regression. Results:1. Chinese version of the PAIS-SR scale (correlation analysis and extreme groupmethod): a total of45items showed good discrimination and identification;throughthe exploratory factor analysis and confirmative analysis,44items entries and forms7subscales. the seven dimensions are health care, the ability to work, familyrelationships, sexuality, and the exchange of information, entertainment situation, psychological conditions. the cumulative variance contribution rate of58.71%;Cronbach α coefficient and Guttman split-half reliability of0.872and0.753,respectively.our finding suggest that Chinese version of the PAIS-SR scale can beused by health care practioner as a useful instrument for assessing the level ofadjustment of the patients with chronic diseases.2. The psychosocial adjustment of This study of cancer patients is at amedium/low level. Overall score for the level of psychosocial adaptation (53.27±15.79) points, the sub-dimensions of health care, the ability to work, familyrelationships, sexuality, and the exchange of information, entertainment situation, psychological condition average points score (6.40±2.93),(14.29±-5.13),(4.28±3.66) points,(7.97±3.39) points,(3.42±2.76) points,(9.27±4.55) points (7.64±4.40) points.3. Univariate analysis showed: education, religion, occupation, working hours, monthly income, training situation, seek disease-related knowledge initiative, thetreatment regimen was statistically significant (P <0.05) differences betweenpsychosocial adaptation;age, the face of the coping style dimension and psychosocialadaptation score showed a significant positive correlation (P <0.05); social supportand dimensions, and the dimension of self-management efficacy, evade and yieldfractal dimension of the medical coping scores are negative correlated withPsychosocial Adjustment (P <0.05).4.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that: Self-efficacy, social support, exercise conditions, yield dimensions, face dimensions, age, utilization of support, treatment plans are major influencing factors of psychosocial adjustment, explainingthe total variance of32.9%. Conclusions:Reliability and Validity of the Chinese version of the PAIS-SR scale in cancerpatients better fit the Chinese cultural context. The subjects psychological level ofsocial adaptation and its sub-scores at a medium/low level; Self-efficacy, socialsupport, exercise conditions, yield dimensions, face dimensions, age, utilization ofsupport, treatment plans are the main impacting factors for cancer patients withpsychosocial adjustment, the results may help clinical screening prone to maladaptivecrowd, and to provide a reference for targeted intervention to adapt to the level of therelevant factors, in order to improve the level of psychosocial adjustment in patientsto improve their quality of life.
