Objective: To describe clinical manifestation and maneuver repositioningtherapy for Benign Paroxysmal Positional vertigo(BPPV).Methods: Retrospectively analysis the clinical manifestation andmaneuver repositioning therapy results of Patients with BPPV from September2011to March2013.Results: Of the425patients,174were male and251female, with a meanage of51.77±15.77years(11to92years)old.Lesion was located in theposterior semicircular canal-BPPV in342patients(semicircularcanal-canalithiasis286cases, semicircular canal-cupulolithiasis21cases,subjective-BPPV35cases),horizontal semicircular canal in81patients(semicircular canal-canalithiasis61cases, semicircularcanal-cupulolithiasis16cases, subjective-BPPV4cases),and superiorsemicircular canal-canalithiasis in2patients. The latency period of nystagmusof posterior canals was (3.30±2.79) s, and time of persistence was (9.40±3.66)s. The latency period of nystagmus of horizontal canals was (2.00±0.87)s, and the time of persistence was (12.56±5.32)s. There wereinsignificant differences in the latency period of nystagmus and time ofpersistence between the vertical and horizontal canals (P=0.199å'ŒP=0.147).Idiopathic BPPV was considered in347patients.Head injury is the onlyexact secondary etiology, contain49cases. When treated with particlerepositioning maneuver(PRM), the initial success rate was71.68%forposterior semicircular canal,70.49%for horizontal semicircular canal. At threemonths following up, success rate was90.91%for posterior canal, and90.16%for horizontal canal. Conclusion: BPPV clinical characteristics is nystagmus and vertigo when headposition changes. Diagnosis is based on Positioning maneuver, and classification according to the head and nystagmus induced direction. It is effective for maneuverrepositioning therapy. According to different types to choose corresponding repositioningmaneuver therapy.
