Objective:To investigate the role of serum Lp-PLA2in the development ofacute cerebral infarction(ACI),and the relationship between Lp-PLA2and subtypesby The Trial of Org l0172in Acute Stroke Treatment(TOAST).Methods: A retrospective case-control study was used,and the data wasprospectively collected from76consecutive ischemic stroke inpatients in ourdepartment from July2012to April2013.The cases of control group were healthypeople at the period time.They were classified into5subtypes shown as follows,1arge-artery atherosclerosis(LAA group),small-artery occlusion(SAO group),cardio-embolism(CE group), stroke of other demonstrated etiology(SOE group), andstroke of undemonstrated etiology(SUE group), the concentration changes of serumLp-PLA2was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay(ELISA).And therelationship between Lp-PLA2level and their TOAST subtypes was analyzed.Results:(1)The serum Lp-PLA2level of patients were significant higher thanthose of controls,and the difference was statistically significan(tP<0.01). The level ofserum Lp-PLA2in LAA group was the highest(P<0.01).(2)Further logisticregression analysis indicated that Lp-PLA2had significant correlation withLAA(OR was5.346,95CI%=2.225-12.846,P<0.01).Conclusion:The serum Lp-PLA2level varied with different subtypes of ACI,which supported that subtypes varied according to different pathogenies. So it may beone of the markers in patients with ACI.The level of serum Lp-PLA2in LAA groupwas the highest. Therefore,detection of plasma Lp-PLA2levels can providetheoretical guidance for the diagnosis of various subtypes of acute ischemic stroke in clinical practice.
