I Analysis and evaluation of efficacy and characteristics of manual toothbrush indomestic marketObjevtive: The aim of this experiment is to investigate the domestictoothbrush market and get information about the range and content of toothbrush’sefficacy and make an evaluate of it. Methods:54toothbrushes from12brands, whichwere bought from Wal-Mart supermarket on Jinhua South Road, were used as sampling inthe experimental study. The efficacy of toothbrushes was analyzed and summed upaccording to the instruction on packaging and their head shape. Result: Toothbrusheswith the efficacy of clean account for79.62%, among which only12.96%toothbrushes aredescribed with such efficacies as dental plaque clearing, drain ditch clean, oral cavity wall, coating on the tongue and halitosis bacteria elimination;68.51%toothbrushes aredescribed with the efficacies in clean of gap and hard reaching parts;1.58%have thefunction of removing soft scale formed by residual food;7.40%toothbrushes aredescribed with the ability of bacteria growth inhibition or reduction.68.51%toothbrushes are beneficial to gingiva and31.48%of them have the efficacy on teeth and gums care,11.11%on gingiva massage and12.96%gingiva protection. The toothbrushes which canprotect young gums or fragile gum take up3.70%,5.55%can prevent gum from bleedingwith no harm to gum Toothbrush with other efficacies account for37.03%, among which12.96%have the function of scouring or whitening,16.66%of fresh breath,,5.55%ofplaque growth-reduction,1.85%of polishing,3.70%of teeth brilliant white and1.85%ofsensitive teeth protection There are14.81%toothbrushes without any introduction ofefficacies. Conclusion: The survey shows that the function of toothbrush is mainlyconcentrated on dental plaque cleaning and gum protection. At the same time, the efficacyof the toothbrush with oral care has become greater, which indicates that the clinical testevaluation for toothbrush efficacy should be focused on dental plaque cleaning andgingiva protection.II Evaluation of the effect on toothbrush of different types in cleaning of dentalplaque with dental plaque indexObjevtive: The aim of this experiment is to evaluate the effectiveness oftoothbrush of different types in cleaning of dental plaque with dental plaque index and tomaster the evaluation method of the effectiveness. Methods: Thirty volunteers screenedby oral health inspection participated in the study and were randomly divided into2groups with15participants in each group. Dental cleaning with any measures wasprohibited in24hours before their examining a week later. Then volunteers in each groupwere required to use other toothbrush type to brush their teeth twice a day and60s eachtime for a week. A week’s later their tongue surface dental plaque was tested withRustugi improved modify and Navy dental plaque index before and after brushing. Results: Toothbrush of physical sharpened hairs was statistically superior to the manualbrush in plaque reduction. Compared with control group, experimental group in which thenew physical sharpened hair brushes were used showed a increase of7.36%in gingivalplaque reduction,5.03%in,interproximal clearance plaque reduction and132.69%insmooth surface plaque reduction. Conclusion: These results clearly demonstrate that thenew physical sharpened hair brush is superior to a manual toothbrush in plaque reduction and new modify Navy dental plaque index improved by Rustugi. etc can effectivelyevaluate cleaning effect of toothbrush.III Evaluation of the effect on toothbrush of different types on gingival health withgingival indexObjevtive: The aim of this experiment is to evaluate the effection oftoothbrush of different types on gingival health with dental plaque index and to masterthe evaluation method of the effectiveness. Methods: one hundred and fourteen volunteersscreened by oral health inspection participated in the study and were randomly dividedinto3groups with38participants in each group. Volunteers were re-examinedrespectively in one week, one month and three months. Each group used a given type oftoothbrush was assigned to each group and the GI was used to assess the gingival healthstatus of each participant. Result: Compared with control group, the experimental groupin which the magnetic toothbrushes were used showed a decrease of14.02%in GI afterone month and three months. Conclusion: These results clearly demonstrate that magnetic toothbrushes is superior tomanual toothbrush in gingival health protection and dental gum index could effectivelyevaluate gingival health protection of toothbrush.IV Evaluation standard in clinical test on efficacy of toothbrush (suggestion)According to the result of the above experiments and literature reviews ofgeneral index to efficacy evaluation and its development at home and abroad, a suggestionof evaluation standard in clinical test on efficacy of toothbrushes is put forward. We putforward a suggestion of clinical test on efficacy of toothbrush, which include general rulesof efficacy evaluation of toothbrush, clinical trials of toothbrush to clean plaque and topromote the health of gums.
