The Welfare Assessment Of Commodity Hogs Inside The Barn At Autumn In Southern China

Animal welfare has drawn the world attention, especially the western country. At the same time, there is a question that many people mention:the problem about the welfare of the people has not yet been resolved, much less animal welfare. As everyone knows, the traditional factory feeding mode ignores the animal welfare, only needs advanced production, and considers high yield to be as good production result. That poor house environment, lack of animal activity space, unscientific production technology and so on, leads to animals sick, motion depression, high sick incidence and low utilization rate, which seriously affect livestock production, the quality of meat and meat taste. And these also indirectly affect human health and sustainable economic development. In conclusion, the better animal welfare, the better human welfare.In this paper, based on the EU farm animal (pig) welfare assessment protocol—Welfare Quality TM, we assessed the welfare commodity hogs inside the barn at autumn in southern China, and research it on four parts:feeding, housing, healthy and behavior welfare. And we also find out the reason why pig farm welfare is lost and production questions. And in accordance with domestic and international experience, we put forward the resolved reference scenario. Aimed to solve the production and management problem fundamentally and improve pig production achievements through improving pig welfare, then converted to the healthy production.The first part is about the overview. The paper introduces the connotation of animal welfare, the importance of animal welfare, the institution and laws development of animal welfare, welfare assessment even some pig welfare problems.The second part is about pig farm assessment. We observed three pig farms at first, then evaluated and scored them from the different aspects, like the pig feeding, housing, health and behavior welfare, in order to discuss the root cause of the domestic pig farm welfare loss. Above all, the primarily reason is that staff cognitive management, weak awamess of animal welfare; facilities management, housing facilities maintenance update is not timely.The third part is pig farm management and behavior analysis. Based on the assessment pig farms, we analyzed the farms water supply and behavior analysis, exploring behavior and quality behavior assessment (QBA), human-animal relationship and body condition. From three parts, we use comprehensive analysis to explore the farm management missing the presence and behavior problems. That mainly reasons are drinking water equipment had shortage and maintenance is not timely, which caused swine resource fighting behavior; barren environment made exploratory behavior not be expressed, which caused poor QBA state; lacking positive interaction between human and animal relationship affected pig body conditions.The forth part is about piggery design and healthy analysis. Based on a comprehensive analysis on ground design and health, the body surface scars and health, ventilation and health as well as castration and tail docking, we found out the reason that the lack of piggery design and healthy problems. Typically, farm management could ensure that the basic herd health. However, piggery design needs to be improved, especially small and medium-sized and old farms. The uneven cement could easily cause herd bursitis; ventilation equipment for pig group provided a good temperature environment to reduce asthma in the hot summer months; surface scars will generally bring to more long-term discomfort and reduce the herd immunity; the housing welfare and health benefits need to be strengthened.
