Study On Classification Of Plant Species Of Magnolia In Guanzhong Area, Shaanxi Province

Through a survey of Magnolia species in Guanzhong Area, Shaanxi Province, itsmorphological characteristics and flowering habits are recorded, quantity and sources ofMagnolia species in Guanzhong area initially identified, and keys to the Magnolia speciesbuilt.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)Magnolia in Guanzhong area has41species(varieties), including20species,21varieties；the21varieties consist of6bud mutant cultivars of M. denudata and4bud mutantcultivars of M.×soulangeana,which are bred on our own,2hybrid varieties throughcooperation,1new viriety M. polytepala,8introduced varieties.(2)The cultivar origin of Magnolia in Guanzhong area is initially identified. The initialorigins of the cultivar origin of Magnolia in Guanzhong area are basically M. denudata andM. liliiflora. The breeding of Magnolia has gradually changed from the natural bud mutation,interspecific hybridization to intergeneric hybridization within Magnoliaceae. After naturalbud mutation breeding and two hybridizations, the biological relationships of some varietiesbecome more complicated, and that is why it is necessary to sort out the origins of the speciesof Magnolia.(3) The retrieving table, initially established for species of Magnolia in Guanzhong Area,is convenient when used for identifying species of Magnolia. The varieties which are widelyused in landscaape, etc. The species of Magnolia in Guanzhong Area mainly include:M.×soulangeana ‘Hongxia’, M.×soulangeana ‘Zixia’, M.‘Yellow river’, M. denudata ‘Lamp’,are obviously different in time of blossoming: species of Subgen. Yulania are the earliest inblossoming, while the species of Subgen. Magnolia, the latest.
