This Paper makes an account of the natural environment and the make-up of livestock in East Ujimqin and explores nomads’knowledge of pasture and their wisdom of raising livestock.This paper consists of five parts, introduction, three chapters, and conclusion.The introduction gives a brief overview of the research purpose and significance of the topic, the methods used, as well as relevant studies.In the first chapter, herdsmen in East Ujimqin have been improving livestock breed according to local environmental resources. It meets the needs of life and effectively makes use of the pasture, thus achieves a balance between livestock breeding and ecological environment protection.The second chapter focuses on terrain selection. Terrain and plants of pasture are two key factors in livestock breeding. Herders in East Ujimqin choose different terrain and plants in different seasons. The effective use of water resources is taken in to account in choosing the terrain of pasture.Chapter III mainly discusses the choice of pasture. Herders in East Ujimqin choose different pasture in different seasons according to the habits of livestock in order to feed the livestock well and to protect them. They observe the livestock constantly during grazing, and as long as there are troubling signs like shedding weight, they will move to another pasture immediately.In the Conclusion, this paper considers it a preferred way that nomads shepherd livestock and move on the pasture constantly according to the natural resources and the state of the livestock, which is not only conductive to the breeding of livestock, but the protection of grassland and ecological diversity.
