Many process systems are in nuclear power plant and more maintenance work in it. Normally the equipment should be isolated or liquid medium in relative piping should be drained when the equipment need to be dismantled or off-line maintenance. But it is very difficult to maintain when no isolated equipment besides or unusable isolated equipment, at the same time thinking about safety (full of heavy water any time in some safe system as reactor heat sink or radiation or radioactivity running out etc.) and economy (too long time to drain or heavy water degrading etc.). Ice plug is a simple, credible and effective method to resolve this problem by isolating the system effectively with whole system operation, and meanwhile, it can avoid the risk of D2O degrading and radioactive matter running out. So this technique has been used widely in CANADA or USA. But the research is in the first step in china, we have no enough experience and guide on this field till now.The author described the ice plug technique and got some parameters about piping stress and duration of ice plug building up through ice plug test, and got a temperature scene and a stress scene data that changed with time by using software ANSYS’S thermodynamics analyzing model and comparing the theory with the experiment, and provided an effective theory and guide in praxis finally.
