With the rapid development of human material civilization, the excessive consumption of resources and energy and the free use of the environment have caused a range of issues, such as resource shortage and environmental pollution. In order to solve the environmental problems ultimately, some measures must be taken to eliminate the pollution in the early stages of the product conceptual design. Therefore, how to integrate effectively green design information having important effects on the environment, and evaluate correctly environmental attributes of resources, energy, carbon emissions throughout the life cycle and thus get green design concept, are the key to improve product environmental attributes.Conceptual design is, mainly from request of customers, to convert the user needs to design parameters and the technical features using QFD method. It focuses more on the low-level information of product parts, such as geometry information, topology information, principle information, function information, basic assembly information and manufacturing information, etc., without detailed shape, size, precision, manufacturing and assembly information. At the stage of conceptual design, the information available to the designer is both thin and high uncertainty. So it’s very difficult to complete the environmental impact assessment using the available information, and optimize product concept further. In addition, due to the lack of environment knowledge, it is very difficult for designers to extract and integrate green information from the incomplete and uncertain design information, and carry on product life cycle assessment further. To solve these problems, in this paper, the product conceptual design model based on green feature has been put forward to support product green design and assessment in the early design stage.(1) Aiming at the problem of lacking parameter information at the conceptual design stage and difficulties in extracting the complete design parameter information to support LCA, the modular design model throughout product life cycle has been built. Firstly a series of products was designed in the form of modularization according to their functionality and green attributes. Then using the module option method, such as case reasoning, constraints, etc., some modules can be restructured into the product needed to get modular design concept based on green feature. Green design parameter information can be got.(2) The two-way information mapping model and mapping relationship model between green design information and green feature have been established, which can translate design parameter information into green feature having a major impact on the environment. And the key techniques of mapping relationship have been studied as a key. A planetary carrier has been taken an example to verify the feasibility of mapping relationship.(3) In the preceding work of the project group, the rapid LCA based on green feature and optimization method have been further studied. Analyzing the uncertain information in the listing, the quantitative and qualitative information of them have been processed separately using the Monte Carlo method and fuzzy set theory, to finish product rapid LCA. Then, the sensitivity analysis method, based on the mathematical statistics or neural network, has been used to find out the factors having greater effect on evaluation results, so that the design concept was optimized.
