A Study On The Regional Design Approaches At City Cultural Center

With the nation’s promotion of cultural undertakings and implementation of related policies since the17th Party Congress, we have seen a climax in the construction of cultural venues in local areas. The author will draw special attention to a certain type of architecture, which is city cultural center. With city cultural center being a carrier of cultural presentation, there’s also an internal need of presenting local culture and expressing regionalization content other than solely satisfying functional needs. Nonetheless, many architectural examples still constrain themselves with an emphasis on image and the practice of symbolizing, labeling, or even cartooning the formal language. Facing such reality and confusion, the author tries to study regional design techniques of city cultural center by summarizing and analyzing a huge number of cases and forming a set of systematic design techniques in accordance with architectural language in order to provide reference to design practice nowadays.The articles divided into three parts:The first part contains Chapter1and Chapter2, which reviewed the background of related study, clearly defined the terms of regionalization and city cultural center, summarized the current situation and characteristics of our nation’s city cultural center, and finally pointed out the problems underlying the regional design of it.The second part contains Chapter3, which definitely proposed the basic ideas of regional design of city cultural center expressed as the core thinking in this article. This part breaks away from the constraint of "taught beliefs" and pointed out the ways of study beginning from microscopic regional issues, which is clearly defining issues and finding effective breakthrough point before replying to the particularity of land. At last, the article defined from a macro perspective two main aspects affecting regional design, which are material and nonmaterial aspects.The third part contains Chapter4, Chapter5and Chapter6and is the main part of the article. This part firstly discussed the regional design approaches from material and nonmaterial aspects. Then, it summarized the outstanding design techniques by judging and analyzing a huge number of cases from the perspectives of physical environment, physical material, technical means, humanities and history and space form, etc. At last, the article analyzed and summarized the comprehensive application of regional design techniques in our nation’s city cultural centers.
