The Stability of bridge was considered as equally important as the strength and stiffness of the bridge. With the increasing of the urban traffic, the urban viaduct was used to ease urban traffic pressure and gradually become the transportation hub. It is t the city’s lifeline engineering. However many bridges collapsed due to lack of stability caused by the common in recent years,which made many people’s lives and property loss.So the study on the stability of the city viaduct has important theoretical significance and applied value as well as social and economic benefits.In addition, with the continuous development of social economy, urban viaduct is toward to be higher, bigger and more complex, and in order to save space under the bridge The single column pier is often used in the bridge, of which the stability is particularly worthy to taking attention under overload and earthquake in city traffic.Based on the features of Single Column city viaduct pier, combined with practical engineering, finite element numerical analysis methods was used to analyze its stability.The mainly work as follows:(1) The structural characteristics and application of urban viaduct were analyzed and summarized, the significance and status of the research on stability were explained.(2) Based on the existing research results, the theory of urban viaduct stability was summarized, The method of stability analysis was described and the finite element analysis method as a common method was used to analyze the stability of the bridge and to calculate the critical load.(3) Combined with the practical engineering, the finite element analysis software ABAQUS was used to model the pier of urban viaduct,considering the changes of the height of the pier, eccentric loads and stable pier seismic loads,under which the critical load, stability safety factor, the corresponding buckling modes and the trends of its stability were calculated and analyzed.(4) Combined with the practical engineering, the finite element analysis software ABAQUS was used to model the real bridge. Considering the extreme overload and seismic loads,under which the stability of the Single Column city viaduct pier were studied,the safety factor and the trend of the stability of the Single Column city viaduct pier were calculated and analyzed.
