With the acceleration of urbanization and the rapid development of China’s national economy, the demand for urban rail transport is growing, so the urban rail transport plays an increasingly important role in modern cities. This requires the rail transportation industry to improve production efficiency in the production, reduce production costs. While the rail industry operating good and stable is based on reasonable layout, so scientific and reasonable layout has important significance for the entire rail industry.Studied in this paper is the subject of a typical manufacturing company M rail company, the company is currently facing product diversification and orders increasing demand pressure, urgent need to improve’productivity and reduce production costs in the fierce competitive environment. In recent years, the company attaches increasing importance to the waste caused by plant layout, and put forward improving plant layout to improve the advantage of the competitive in the production.This paper analyzed the present situation rail manufacturing workshop. Firstly, find the optimal method of layout through reading and comparing a lot of data of various layout methods, and discuss the feasibility of the method in the rail transportation industry. Secondly, basing on accounting of the actual production capacity, the old workshop is integrated to a new workshop. Analyze the unreasonable transportation routes which take too much time to transport, and make the workshop logistics analysis table. According to the actual situation of new workshop, analyze the non-logistic factor’s influence by weight method. Then draw the workshop analysis table. Basing on logistic and non-logistic analysis, draw the position and area charts. Presents two optimized layout program, and to determine the best solution. Complete the optimization of rail transportation workshop layout.
