Many scholars have been engaged in solving product reliability, software reliability andcomplex system reliability problems, since reliability problem was proposed. Such a largenumber of researches have been made. But they didn’t go into details of the productionsystem reliability and related issues. In this paper, the research is based on the productionsystem, the reliability and failure problems are described. On the basis of reliabilityprediction, the method of production system reliability allocation is put forward.Reliability prediction and allocation problems are important parts of the productionsystem design and reconstruction. The overall system reliability level is expected to knowaccording to the production units’reliability level. The reasonable system reliability target isput forward based on the reliability prediction result, which is the precondition to allocation.In the practical production, in order to achieve the overall reliability demand of the system,reliability designer and engineering decision maker are asked to decide how to assign thesystem reliability target to each production unit gradually. Let each production unit achievesits assigned value so that we can achieve the system reliability as a whole. Productionsystem reliability allocation problem is what this article focuses on.Unconstrained allocation and constrained reliability allocation are two common methods.In this article, unconstrained method was firstly used to assign reliability target to each unit,then reliability allocation based on the constraint such as cost was optimized. Equipmentand production process’ reliability in the unit would be assigned further with the productionunit’s reliability as a target. The reasonable prediction and allocation method are the keyfactors to achieve system reliability. Finally, using prediction and allocation methodproposed in this paper, a specific implementation from reliability prediction to allocationthrough a practical case was fully formulated. With the help of the system reliabilitysimulation software BlockSim, the production system reliability allocation process wassimulated and the optimizing of reliability allocation result was also obtained.
