The Analysis And Optimization Of Suspension K&C Characters Of A Car

Handling stability is an important performance of car. The suspension K&Ccharacteristics have an important influence on vehicle handling and stability characteristic.The design and tuning technology of automotive suspension system is an important process ofthe chassis’ development, but also a core technology of the domestic automobile’sindependent development.The design of suspension can be divided in two steps. In the first period design of car,use the software of CarSim to establish the vehicle model and study suspension K&Cperformances’ effect on vehicle handling and stability characteristics. Meanwhile, optimizethe suspension K&C performance on vehicle handling and stability characteristics by anobjective evaluation. And take into account the impact of speed, load and the centroid’slocation change on the car handling and stability characteristic. To get the most robust resultwhich is not always optimal by using the robust design ideas, but the result is closer to theactual and more reasonable.After the first period of suspension design, taking account of the structure of a car thepaper use multi-body dynamics software of ADAMS/Car to establish models of front andrear suspension. Meanwhile, achieve the desired K&C characteristics by adjusting the hardpoints and bushing stiffness. Taking into account the variety of suspension K&Ccharacteristics, and even some indicators were conflicting for each other. So, multi-objectiveoptimization problem was converted into a single objective by a weighted approach. Suchapproach was also facility for engineering applications.The paper chose different software of CarSim and ADAMS/Car based on thecharacteristics at different stages of vehicle development. The advantages of the two kinds ofsoftware were fully performed. And during the optimization process, the specializedoptimization software Isight was used to combine with ADAMS/Car and CarSim. So theprocess of optimization was more efficient and satisfactory.
