Hong Kong Public Housing was began to develop in1953and it is just in time the60th anniversary of its development in2013. Up to the end of March2012, it has developed1.152million public housing flats in Hong Kong, providing decent housing for more than3.296million residents, which is about46.2%of total population of Hong Kong. Such remarkable achievement of Hong Kong Public Housing has earned itself worldwide reputation and it has been recognized as the model of effective resident guarantee internationally.This paper takes the internal public space of Hong Kong Public Housing as the main research object, mainly from the perspective of typology and based on collecting materials of different types and relevant cases of Hong Kong Public Housing in different periods during last60years. Meanwhile by means of drawing and comparing diagrams and graphs, this paper focuses the research on types of internal spatial organization and emphasizes the core role of internal public space during the spactial organization. Based on above research, more detailed analysis on types and characteristics of internal public space is also under discussion from two aspects of plan shape and space form.The subject of this paper belongs to the project of Architectural Design in Hong Kong from the1950s to the1970s-A Topical and Case Study Approach of CUHK444610, supported by Research Grants Council of Hong Kong and directed by Prof. Gu Daqing from School of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Material collecting, resreach methods establishing and the key research contents are completed in Hong Kong.
