The development of cities in China is moving into a phase which is based onrenovation and redevelopment, and the architecture renovation becomes the key focusof society. A large number of industrial heritages are facing a situation of beingunused and abandoned due to the highly developed economy. In this circumstance, weshould know how to make best of industrial heritages, how to preserve and reuse theabandoned industrial heritages in modern times and how to renew and replace theindustrial land in city. This plays a significant role not only in resolving the realisticproblems, but also in continuing historical culture.The proper renewal and reusing of industrial architectural heritages is beneficialfor the continuity of architectural culture, discovering modern value of industrialarchitecture, and organic renewal and regional specialties of architecture and urbanenvironment. Thus it stimulates and promotes the upgrading and development in oldindustrial areas and factories. Under the guidance of the sustainable developmentpolicy, the new architecture and city should be updated by the old buildings forsolving the problems of the old industrial architectures in the city. This approach hasa good economic and social benefit.In developed countries, the preservation and reusing of industrial heritage hasgone through the early stages of exploration and practice, their concepts and methodsabout protection has reached a certain level, and they has accumulated a lot of richexperience. Currently, adaptive reusing of industrial heritages has become dominant.In China, the preservation and reusing of industrial heritages becomes populargradually, and China focuses more attention on the preservation and reusing ofindustrial heritages by using theoretical analysis and practical researches.861factory in Chenxi, Hunan is one of four arsenals during China’sAnti-Japanese War, it is one of the old industrial base for producing "white cloud"brand refrigerator during the first five-year plan period after the liberation. In thispaper, I take861factory in Chenxi as the study object. As a traditional industrialtown of Chenxi County,861factory has a large number of industrial heritages. Ianalysis and evaluate industrial heritages from different perspectives, such as thehistorical and cultural value, economic value, artistic value, emotional value, and soforth. I conclude that861factory in Chenxi should be valued and protected in the urban development process. In addition, I summarize the principles, contents,methods, and research achievements in China and abroad. Then, I analysis the statusquo of861factory, and discuss the preservation methods. I illustrate one exampleabout the industrial heritages in the Thermal Power Plant to show the methods ofpreservation and reusing. In the end, I put forward a variety of practical patterns inthe process of renovation design and the important specific measures.
