With the rapid development of science and technology, the relation betweenscience and technology and global economy is becoming closer and closer. Theinnovation of science and technology undoubtedly has become one of the main factorsand powerhouse for social progress and economic development. Especially after theinternational financial crisis, we witnessed new changes and situations in worldeconomic pattern and international strength balance, fiercer comprehensive nationalstrength competition, thus the decisive significant of innovation ability is of greatimportance. The innovative science and technology park, as our innovative center andimportant high-tech industrial base, slowed down its economic growth rate andbenefits and emerged issues concerning with functional structure and spatialarrangement after decades of development. Our science and technology park is now inthe crucial point of transformation to innovative-driven development. However, weare lack of experience and theoretical guidance in the development and construction ofinnovative science and technology park in China. Therefore, we must continuing ourwork to discuss the development and construction for innovative science andtechnology park in terms of planning and design, hence to form a theoretical system toeffective guide us to conduct functional organization and spatial arrangement.Through conducting theoretical analysis and living examples on the constructionof innovative science and technology parks at home and abroad, this paperdemonstrates the strategies of designing innovative science and technology parks inpresent China in the aspects of function construction and spatial configuration in asystematic and comprehensive manner. This paper consists of six chapters. The firstchapter introduces the background of this study, explains related fundamental conceptsand analyzes the purpose, significance, content and research methods of this paper.The second chapter introduces the development process of innovative science andtechnology parks at home and abroad and the theoretical research results, and presentsthe problems existed in the aspects of function construction and spatial configurationof innovative science and technology parks in China. The third chapter expoundsfundamental theories and explores theoretical foundation which is suitable for theconstruction of innovative science and technology parks in China through drawingupon related theories in the fields of economic geography and planning architecture. The fourth chapter lays emphasis on analyzing the function construction of innovativescience and technology parks, exploring the approaches on function construction ofthe park from the perspectives of function composition of the park, designingessentials of individual function zones, correlations of subsystems and the models offunction layout. The fifth chapter conducts in-depth analysis on the spatialconfiguration of innovative science and technology parks, exploring the models ofspatial configuration of the park from the perspectives of the location layout of thepark, composition configuration of individual element, techniques of spatial layoutand designing strategies of spatial configuration. By the means of a great number offield survey cases and systematic demonstration, the writer tries to explore a healthyand sustainable function construction and spatial configuration models of innovativescience and technology parks from the perspective of urban planning and urban design.The sixth chapter further proves the aforementioned theoretical researches by themeans of specific introductions of practical programs the writer has participated,which is perfect example of the combination of theory and practice.Through the analyze of function and spatial in innovative science and technologypark, the paper hope to provide abundant reference materials to architects and plannersin China for their research, design and construction.
