With the rapid development of economy and society, explosion of populationand city together with acceleration of the pace of life, people’s behaviors andpsychological activities are constantly changing. The close neighborhoods andtraditional courtyard spaces are gradually disappearing, while the stereotypedcommercial spaces are rising in major cities. But in fact, in addition to satisfying thebasic needs of urban residents, the dully commercial spaces and public spaces cannotattract their communication desire. Most of their society life, in addition to their work,takes place in their home. At the same time with people’s disinteresting in commercialspaces and public spaces, they don’t lose their desire of communication. They hope tofind a relaxed, comfortable and characterized communication space, especially withthe great social pressure.The fair and street market in china has a long history. Their developmentsaccompany the progress of human society and they plays important role in people’sdaily life and production. Nowadays, with the rapid development of city, thetraditional fair and street markets are disappearing and being replaced by modernsupermarkets and all kinds of professional markets.21century is a multielement andmixed mode century; those monotonous and single-function spaces can’t satisfypeople’s diversified demand of social life. The modern street markets do not onlykeep the virtues of the traditional market and also absorb the elements of developmentof history. The modern street market is not only the demand of the development ofsustainable city but also the requirement of people’s modern life style.Recently, in domestic and overseas, most researches on fair and street marketfocus on country fair with a historical and economical perspective and have littleattentions on city street market. This paper research and analysis the modern marketstreet space and its influence on culture, vigorous, characteristic, sustainabledevelopment of city with the base of country fair researches. Finally, this paperattempt to propose a strategy for modern city street market design.The chapter one first introduce the main research contents of the paper byclarifying the troubles happened in development of modern city public space and thenintroduce the research objective, overseas and domestic research status, researchmethods in detail.The chapter two introduces the basic concepts and the development andevolution of fair and street market. Functions of traditional fair and street market areanalyzed here in detail. At the end, city street market’s influence on the developmentof modern city is presented. The chapter three researches the current situation of city market street space inchina and gets the causes of the formation of city market Street and its impact onpeople’s life.The chapter four first classifies the street market in modern city and has aspecific analysis on street market space and then presents the practical significance ofcity street marketThe chapter five proposes a strategy for modern city street market space designwith the researches above which makes this paper has practical meanings.The last chapter summarizes the research contents and propose the direction offurther study.
