According to the prediction of the international energy source agency, the demands to energy resource in the world will substantial increase. As the new type energy resource, there are totally470sets of nuclear power units are running (including more than ten sets being established). The capacity of the unit could reach376430MW. The installed capacity of nuclear power project has covered17%of the total installed power-generating capacity. The nuclear power in our country is in the preparing period with whole speed development. According to the target of<the medium and long term development program of nuclear power (2005~2020)>,we could reach to40000MW installed capacity for running nuclear power in2020, and18000MW capacity in construction process. In the condition of the new target, the installed capacity could increase from40000MW to60000MW.The nuclear power pump is the significant part in the nuclear power station. Along with the steadily progress of imported three generation technology, and the R&D success of domestic nuclear pump in class Ⅱ, our nuclear power equipment manufacturing is developing speedily. The essential service water pump is an important equipment class III in nuclear power station. This pump is mainly serviced for RRI/SEC heat exchanger in cooling water system. The sea water conveyed by the essential service water pump could transfer the heat in RRI/SEC heat exchanger to the nature (sea). So as to ensure all the equipment in nuclear power station running safely.The essential service water pumps in our nuclear power unit rely to importing all the time. The essential service water pump mentioned in this article has significance to realize the nuclear power localization.This article has described independent research and development of essential service water pump for1000MW nuclear power unit in some power station unit I. The mainly researching works include the developing of high efficiency hydraulic model, the designing of structure, the reliable calculation to the main components, the model test and the actual pump running test. The test result indicated that the performance of this pump is excellent and could meet all the requirements of the design. The high efficiency essential service water pump for1000MW nuclear power unit independently researched and developed by our self is vertical, single stage centrifugal pump with double casing. It has filled in the domestic blanks. At present it has been sent to the client successfully.
