With the rapid development of metro in China, more and more cities begin to plan the network of urban rail transit. Therefore the study on urban rail network becomes particularly important. This paper selects40cities’rail transit network as samples in the world, and analyzes network characteristic quantitatively using graph theory and complex network theory from the perspective of both the macro and micro. The main contents include the following:(1) Collect the topology information of40metro networks worldwide, and establish the appropriate topology model.(2) Analysis of network macroscopic characteristics. Developing mode and developing state of metro network are analyzed using the indicators of extensibility, complexity and connectivity. The results show that there are two kinds of developing mode:Regional Accessibility Priority and Local Coverage Priority, which will become Integrated Network finally. The development of metro network can be divided into three phases.(3) Analysis of network microscopic characteristics. The scale-free and small-world features of metro network are studied. The results show that Space-L is the scale-free network and Space-P is both the scale-free network and the small-world network. The results also include evolving law of the network complexity features and influencing factor of the network efficiency.(4) A case study on Beijing existing network and2015planned network. This chapter focuses on analyzing the impacts of the plan on the network characteristics. The2015planned network is evaluated and given some optimized suggestions.
