Development of EDA technology has changed the traditional electronicdesign methods. FPGA programmable logic devices such as large-scaleextensive application of electronic design and software programming hasbecome as easy and quick. Electronics design and technology, but alsochanged the traditional frequency meter design. The frequencymeasurement method commonly use both analog circuit frequencycharacteristic measurement frequency method, but also the use of digitalpulse counting method for measuring frequency. With the development ofdigital circuit technology to pulse counting method based on figures derivedfrom a variety of improved frequency measurement method, measurementaccuracy, rapid response measurement and other aspects have beengreatly improved.This paper analyzes the direct frequency measurement method andperiod measurement principle of frequency measurement method,indicating that these two methods of generating counting frequencymeasurement error causes. Multi-cycle synchronous frequencymeasurement method achieved due to frequency measurement signal andthe measured gate pulse signal synchronized, eliminating the measuredsignal counting error. Paper, the multi-cycle synchronization frequencymeasurement principle in-depth analysis, and by calculating the threemethods of measuring frequency measurement error, indicating that thesethree advantages, disadvantages and frequency measurement methods forfrequency measurement applications. As multi-cycle synchronousfrequency measurement method of measurement accuracy and themeasured signal frequency independent, such as precision measurementmethod is applicable to a wide range of frequency measurement, so this multi-cycle synchronization frequency measurement method for frequencymeter design, gives the overall design scheme. In the specific designimplementation, the core frequency meter frequency measurement moduleuses large-scale FPGA-based programmable logic devices EDA designtechnology, based on bottom-up design approach, implemented inaccordance with the frequency measurement circuit divided into differentfunctions multiple sub-circuits using VHDL program implements thefunctions of each sub-circuit, and finally through the top-level design filecomponent instantiation statement to each circuit connected together toform a complete frequency measurement circuit VHDL Design. VHDLprogram through an integrated, adapted to form a configuration filedownloaded to the FPGA FPGA device configured so that a practical FPGAfrequency measurement circuit. Finally, the article also annex frequencymeter module hardware design, so that the frequency meter to become acomplete frequency measurement system.
