The rapid development of power electronics technology has claimed high power quality. Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) can compensate the load reactive current and harmonic current, also can suppress voltage fluctuations, voltage flicker and imbalance voltage of each phase, it can provide users with high-quality power, so it is a powerful tool to solve power quality problems. For this series of questions, the unified power quality conditioner has become a hot research field of power quality problem.Firstly, this article describes the grid power quality problems and hazards. Then describes the development and current status of the Unified Power Quality Conditioner briefly, and on this basis, the article analyzes the topology and compensation principle of the UPQC. To the decisive influences of UPQC compensation-detection and control methods, the article makes detailed studying and discussion. In detective methods, on the basis of a comprehensive analysis of various detection algorithms, it deduces a PLL-less synchronous detection method. In the control method, parallel sides uses a constant frequency hysteresis tracking control method, while the serial side uses Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) method. In addition the simulation results are given too. Finally, according to the test aspects of the design algorithm used in the corresponding, hardware circuit for voltage and current harmonics is made.
