Study On The Elements And Characteristics Of Spatial Morphology Of Zhiying Ancient Town

ZhiYing Ancient Town is a peculiar ancient town with large-scale and intensive ancestral halls as center in the region of JiangSu and ZheJiang. The unique spatial pattern, structure and styles are all representative for clan culture and the context of the region in the past thousands of years. Zhiying Ancient Town is one of the extremely valuable historical heritages. Currently, Zhiying Ancient Town is declaring the national historical cultural town. However, the researching related to Zhiying Ancient Town is still in its infancy and only limited to the study of ancestral halls and clan culture, which is nearly on the basic stage for the integrity study of spatial form and constructive research.This paper focuses on the spatial form of Zhiying Ancient Town with gathering relevant information, field research and interviews as the methodology. It uses morphology and typology as analytical tools to extract and analyze the spatial form factors for Zhiying Ancient Town with different classification levels.Firstly, it refines the different elements that constituting the whole ancient town and characteristics of the landscape pattern, spatial layout and shape texture with macro level perspectives analysis on ancient town spatial form.Secondly, it studies the interaction and constituting principle between different spatial factors from the general and specific characteristics of street, waters and group architectures on the mid-level perspective point of view.At last, it analyses the constitution and characteristics with deeping into the dynamic elements of ancient town from micro-point of view.The author hopes to offer such a detailed guideline and clear information for Zhiying Ancient Town integration protection in the future through the deep analysis from the three perspectives on ancient town spatial form.
