The Trial Product Of High-power Electric Locomotive

With the slogan,"overloading for freight and high-speed for passenger", put forward by China Ministry of Railways, the requirements of the railway transport locomotive’s capability are increasingly high. According to "The long-term planning of railway net" and the general requirements,"introduction of advanced technology, the joint design and production, to build Chinese brands," which approved by the State Council, Dalian loco company, under the guidance of the Ministry of Railways, strategically began to develop six-axis9600kW power AC drive electric freight locomotive at appropriate time, based on the performances obtained from the two types locomotive technology introduction, one of which is HXD3electric locomotive, anther is HXN3diesel locomotive. The new type of electric locomotive is HXD3B locomotive which is developed with a cooperator:Canada’s Bombardier CompanyHXD3B electric locomotive is independently designed and manufactured by our company, and has successfully passed the type test proved by the authoritative institution-Beijing Institute of Railway Sciences. Compare with HXD3electric locomotive, the previous generation production, HXD3B locomotive has many excellent characters such as more powerful, more reasonable layout, easier to maintain and etc.In the first, this paper gives a detailed description about HXD3B electric locomotive, including equipment layout, ventilation system, electrical system, and air brake system. In the design process, our technical staff have solved a set of difficult technological problems, and finished ventilation design of air conditioning in front of driver cab, Sydney-style cowcatcher design, high-voltage equipment integrated design, traction bar and traction unit split design and etc.. We achieved a lot of re-innovation in the structure forms and other fields. Through this paper, the reader can obtain more information about HXD3B electric locomotive with a better understanding.Then, this paper introduces the section of manufacture and test of HXD3B electric locomotive. That is how to ensure the design through progress technology. In the trial process, in order to overcome the shortcoming of the long assembly cycle of electric locomotive, and the lock of assembly spaces, the ways of pre-cabling and pre-piping are adapted, which help us meet the design requirements and contractual requirements.Because the independent design and manufacturing of9600kW locomotives is the first case in China, so it’s necessary to analyze the concepts of design and process technology of manufacture of HXD3B electric locomotive, and to prepare for future improvements.
