Automatic train protection (ATP) system, as the security the core of Automatic train control (ATC) system, is an important equipment of safe driving. It can effectively avoid dangerous driving caused by human error operation and other accidents through tracking train interval, taking protection control for overspeed automatically and managing interlocking relationship of door and platform screen door. With the development of communication technology, especially the wide application of wireless communication technology, the automatic train protection (ATP) system based on the communication that realizing two-way communication between trackside unit and on-board unit by wireless communication network from the orbit to train, has become a new development direction of the urban rail traffic ATP system. It can further reduce trackside signal system, and improve the system upgrade and expanding ability.The implementation of the automatic train protection (ATP) system is based on the block signal system, which can be divided into fixed block signal system, quasi moving block signal system and mobile block signal system. Compared to fixed block system, moving block has no fixed block section. It makes sure the smaller train interval according to train’s dynamic operation, improves the positioning accuracy through the advanced means of communication, realize bidirectional data transmission between train and trackside. It owns strongest trafflcability and highest efficiency of all the signal block system at present.This paper proposes the hardware design and software realization of automatic train protection (ATP) system based on communication after studying detail on the wireless spread spectrum technology and the train positioning technology and train tracking technology. In the hardware design, this paper puts forward four subsystem design scheme including the trackside equipment, automotive equipment, wireless communication system and backup system. In the realization of the software, this paper adopts OS COSPAS32to completed the design of ATP unit software, the driver operating device and interface.
