Study On The Establishment Of Achievable Urban Design Code

This article focuses on the issue of linking from the policy to the construction and from the design goal to the building form. Chinese cities are in the period of high-speed urbanism as well as the social transformation, especially in the overwhelming increasing construction speed and unstable development conditions, to face the needs of government body’s paternalism, this article found the key part in the control process, which was named as the design guideline. Taking Shenzhen Qianhai cooperation district design guideline and Fuzhou Qingkou mobile city master urban design, the author offered a suitable method to Chinese cities and the method to establish achievable urban design code.This article was about seven chapters:The first chapter was about the background and the framework of this article.The second chapter was about the theories of the urban design control in term of the definition, the way of convey and the scales. And then introduced different kinds of urban design control codes.The third chapter talked about the latest foreign countries’ development and practices including the frameworks. Then the form-based codes in USA as well as the smart codes, and finally the difference of urban design control in China and USA.The fourth chapter introduced the research level and the development and the urban design guidelines in the recent ten years in China. Then provided the dialectical thinking to the application of urban design guideline in current condition. Finally, basing on the construction environment, the author gave the cause, the meaning and the affection of the urban design control guideline as well as the differences and similarities between these two.The fifth chapter illustrated the principles, which were clear targets; logistic framework; flexible limits; and readable representation. Then were the establish process, the design cycle, the key way of expression and the inevitable difficulties.The sixth chapter took Shenzhen Qianhai cooperation district design guideline and Fuzhou Qingkou mobile city master urban design to demonstrate the principles and methods mentioned in the fifth chapter.Finally, by way of establish the control framework and the control matrix to form the handbook as the urban design control standard code to weave together the goal and construction. The innovation is about the application of the illustrative control matrix. The further research would be about the factors on control limits and the application on the control matrix to the review of urban design control.29Figures,7tables,57references.
