A Comparative Study Between The German Neo-classic And Gothic Revival Decorative Art

German neo-classic and Gothic Revival architecture are both the retro pattern, but their decorative style is very dififerent.The reasons are not only the design environment, but also the philosophy of the designer and the application scope of the architecture. Particully, the reasons are relate to the various fields of political, economic, cultural, social life and etc. Therefore, the comparative study between them has great impacts on the development of modern architecture and the social of the design.In this paper, we used the historical research methods to get theoretical foundation from the related historical arguments, study the forming reasons of German neo-classic and Gothic Revival architecture decoration, and analyze how the different external factors impact on them. We used the image method to study the architecture instances, specific symbols and decoration. Explaining their differences by internal techniques and aesthetic tendencies. We used the comparative method to study the concept of decoration, the artistic features and the influences. And finally, we get the similarity and the differences as well as the deeper reasons of them, through the inductive reasoning and logical argument methods.The German Neo-classic and Gothic Revival decorative art are grown up based on the classical art, while they have evoluted their building decoration boldly, which influence the development of following architectures, and serve as important references for our urban construction and architected decoration design.
