The Evaluation On Space Suitability Of Garden-passageway In Shanghai Urban Park

Garden-passageway is one of the important recreational facilities inurban park. The object of this paper is the free garden-passageway withtypical linear form in urban park which has the traffic and rest functions. Themeaning of space suitability in this paper is that the garden-passageway hasthe space feature, which is that the layout, function and shape ofgarden-passageway are coordinating with the surroundings characteristicsand the design of the inner space can meet the behavior action andpsychological needs of the crowd.In this study, based on systematic review of City Park andgarden-passageway space research, the theory and methodology ofgarden-passageway space suitability evaluation in urban park had beenestablished. Based on the size and nature of the park, eight urban parks hadbeen selected through quota sampling. We selected15Garden-passagewaysfrom these parks, and did a comprehensive survey and analysis of the spatialcharacteristics by the fieldwork, structured questionnaires, interviews, etc.And we used the analytic hierarchy process to evaluate the space suitabilityof garden-passageways in Shanghai urban Parks. The space suitability evaluation results of15samples were as follows: in the15garden-passageways,2were at level I,11were at level II, and2were at levelIII. There were significant differences between11samples which were atlevel II. By analyzing the evaluation and survey results, we can find the mainproblems of garden-passageways in Shanghai urban parks.(1) The baseaddress environmental conditions of the plains garden-passageways weregenerally poor, which caused no scenery to be seen in garden-passageway.(2)The spatial organization of overall surrounding located garden-passagewaywas not reasonable as the poor spatial organization coordination between theplant, the water and the garden-passageway and the poor space diversity ofoverall surrounding.(3) Surface materials of garden-passageways were notappropriate, shows in coordination of colors and visual texture withenvironment. As the materials of garden-passageways were not selectedappropriately, the colors and textures of the garden-passageways are notenough coordinate with the surrounding, which causes the image ofgarden-passageways are slightly unexpected.(4) The poor comfort of sitcondition and interference between various activities. Finally, aimed at theexist problems, the optimal design countermeasures has been projected.Innovation of this study is that doing research on garden-passageway inurban park from the angle of the space suitability for the first time. Second,after building the space suitability evaluation system, it was applied to thegarden-passageways in Shanghai Urban Parks. Third, with the evaluationresults, the optimal design countermeasures were projected, which canprovide a guidance of Theory and practice to the development of recreationallandscape architecture sketches. View of the reason of personal time and energy, the number of selected survey samples is limited, which will impactthe conclusion comprehensiveness; the evaluation indicators did not considerthe satisfaction of the tourists on space suitability of garden-passageways. Sothe reliability and validity of the evaluation results needs further studying,which is also the direction for further research.
