Drive axle is an important component of the vehicle. It is not only to bear the enginetorque, but also the power and torque from the frame and roads. So it’s especially important toanalyze of dynamic response of the Drive axle. Modal analysis is the foundation of thestructure dynamic characteristics. Compared with the single part, the drive axle assembly hasbeen the difficulty of the modal analysis.Based on the theory of modal synthesis, the finite element and experimental modalanalysis technology are organically combined.Taking the drive axle assembly and parts in amicrovans as the research object, their calculation modal parameters and experimental modalparameters are obtained from ANSYS and experimental modal analysis methods. Bycalculating modal and correlation analysis of the test modal, validated are the correctness ofthe drive axle assembly model and the rationality of the joint surface processing method, aswell as the modal synthesis method has carried on the detailed research.First of all, this article introduced the modal synthesis theory and usage. Secondly basedon the modal synthesis method, the finite element model of drive axle assembly isconstructed using the CMS(component mode synthesis) technique of ANSYS, and freemodes are calculated and vibration modes are analyzed. Components contact processingmethod was studied simply, meanwhile compared differences between axle housing and axleassembly in natural frequencies and vibration modes and detail study is made on modalsynthesis method. Thirdly based on the modal analysis theory, modal testing system is builtand the modal parameters of drive axle housing and assembly are obtained by used ofprofessional modal test software MODENT. Finally use modal correlation theory, the modalanalysis is done by the end of this paper. Modal parameters achieved by finite elementmethod coincide with those achieved in experiment, which shows the correctness of themodels and adopts the proper research method and provide foundation of theory andexamination for the next step to the static and dynamic analysis and product improvement onthe drive axle assembly.
